The WISCAR Women in Law Mentoring Programme (WILMP)

The WISCAR Women in Law Mentoring Programme (WILMP) is a flagship leadership development initiative designed to accelerate the growth of high-potential female legal professionals across the judiciary, legislature, executive institutions, academia, and private legal practice. Through structured mentorship, leadership development, curated masterclasses, peer learning, and direct access to accomplished women leaders, the programme equips participants with the leadership capabilities, strategic networks, and confidence required to advance into positions of greater influence while contributing to a more inclusive, effective, and equitable legal ecosystem in Nigeria.

The inaugural cohort delivered strong outcomes, demonstrating the transformative impact of structured mentorship on women’s leadership journeys. Participants reported increased confidence, greater leadership clarity, stronger career positioning, expanded professional networks, and enhanced readiness to pursue senior leadership opportunities. Feedback from both mentors and mentees affirmed the lasting value of the mentoring relationships and the programme’s contribution to developing a new generation of women leaders within the legal profession.

Building on the success of the inaugural cohort, Cohort 2 is currently ongoing, reaffirming WISCAR’s commitment to developing a pipeline of exceptional women leaders equipped to influence policy, strengthen institutions, and shape the future of Nigeria’s legal profession.

Cohort 1 at a Glance

• 161 women were accepted into the inaugural cohort.

• 161 participants engaged in the Leadership Development component, ensuring every accepted mentee benefited from the programme’s leadership curriculum at some stage of the journey.

• 56 mentees participated in the One-on-One Mentoring component, receiving personalised guidance from senior women leaders across the legal profession.
