Funke Osibodu

Funke Osibodu, a graduate of University of Ife, Ile-Ife and an Alumni of Harvard Business School, has had over three decades of banking experience whose formative years included Nigeria International Bank (Citibank), before becoming the Managing Director/Chief Executive of two banks in Nigeria – MBC International Bank and Ecobank Nigeria PLC. In recognition of her turnaround management skill, she was chosen by the Central Bank of Nigeria to lead the rescue and resuscitation of Union Bank of Nigeria as the Group Managing Director/Chief Executive of the bank from 2009 to 2012. 

Over the years, she has been on the board of various institution, with some of past board membership being: • Director, Nigerian Interbank Settlement System • Director, First Securities Discount House • Chairman of several subsidiaries of Union Bank (including Union Bank UK; Union Trustees Ltd, Union Registrar s Ltd; Union Assurance Ltd) • Director in African Finance Corporation (AFC in Nigeria) • Director, HFC Bank (in Ghana) Again in 2013, recognizing her excellent turnaround successes, she was invited to lead the turnaround of one of the privatized electricity distribution companies as the current Chief Executive Office/Managing Director of BEDC Electricity PLC, a position she currently occupies. This is in additional to her role as Vice Chairman of Vigeo Group and member of various other companies Board of Director. 

As a committed citizen to the development of Nigeria, Funke Osibodu was a foundational member of Nigeria Economic Summit Group (NESG) before becoming a Director and a former Vice Chairman of the NESG, in addition to holding active roles in various summits (including rapporteur and chairman of various committees). Her strength as a visionary person, was also seen when she was chosen by the Federal Government of Nigeria as one of the 200 members to craft out the 1 st Visioning process for Nigeria ‘’ Vision 2010’’ and became subsequently a member of the Policy support group of the Economic management team on Vision 2020. As a contributor to the building of Nigerian Institutional Systems, it is worthwhile to mention some of her key developmental roles over the years as: • A motivator and foundation member in the creation of Nigerian Interbank Settlement System (NIBSS) • A foundation member in the creation of Money Market Association, creation of Nigerian Interbank Offer Rate (Nibor) and the two-way foreign exchange market • A foundation member in the creation of local and international debit card systems in Nigeria (through Valucard and Mastercard) • A Co-Chairman, 1st Lagos State Economic Summit Group in 2001 She is currently on the Board of Trustees of Elizade University as well as a member, Advisory Board of her alma mater, Holy Child College. She continues to be a recipient of various corporate awards.
