Developing Career Women to Build Better Nation – The WISCAR Agenda

It would seem that 2017 is the year of women as many organizations are making conscious efforts towards supporting and empowering women to succeed in various endeavours. One of such organisations is Women In Successful Careers (WISCAR). WISCAR is driving online conversations around the hashtag #IAmAPowerWoman this week. Through the hashtag, the organization is rallying users on social media to celebrate and empower professional women in Nigeria. Using the hashtag, professional career women are inspired to share their pride in being in successful careers, and discuss important qualities that powerful women should possess to thrive in the workplace. This hashtag is part of activities lined up toward WISCAR’s upcoming 10 year anniversary.

A sneak peek at WISCAR explains it as a supportive non-profit organization aimed at assisting young women in making informed career choices; tackling professional challenges in a constructive manner through a highly established mentoring platform and relationship. WISCAR has through activities in the last 10years earned a reputation for building a formidable network of focused and driven women who will facilitate a new chapter of experience in the workplace and in organizations.

Since inception in 2008, inspired by ALIWA (Africa Leadership Initiative West Africa), WISCAR has equipped several professional women with relevant skills and competencies to effectively manage their careers, assume leadership line positions, and contribute to nation building.

Through its Win-with-WISCAR Mentoring Program and School of Excellence, a 12 month mentoring programme that connects established career women with young women who are looking to be successful in their careers, WISCAR is actively enhancing strong leadership skills, cultivating individual capacity, and overall workplace effectiveness of females in the workplace. The Win-with-WISCAR programme addresses specific competency gaps and equips individuals with the critical skills necessary to progress their careers.

For WISCAR, the empowerment of increasing numbers of professional women in Nigeria will in turn empower others and unlock the potential of women. It will also enrich the talent workforce, contribute to growth and development to help Nigeria progress. With the hashtag, #IAmAPowerWoman, WISCAR follows its mission to develop women to build a better nation by creating crucial conversations centred on career women in Nigeria.

The WISCAR Annual Leadership and Mentorship Conference will hold on Dec. 9, 2017, beginning at 9:30 am at the Shell Hall, MUSON Centre, Onikan, Lagos. The event will take place concurrently with its annual conference and graduation of its mentees.

The keynote speaker, Dr. (Mrs.) Omobola Johnson, the Honorary Chairperson of the Global Alliance for Affordable Internet and a Nigerian technocrat will be present. The event will also have top achievers Bisi Fayemi, (Award-winning Nigerian activist, writer and philanthropist), Udo Okonjo, (Member of the New York Bar and Nigerian Bar Associations since 1991 and 1993 respectively) and other notable figures in attendance.
