UN GLOBAL COMPACT LOCAL NETWORK

The UN Woman Global Compact Local Network hosted a CEO breakfast roundtable and formally launched its Africa Strategy. A high-level panel that included WISCAR Founder/Chairperson and other distinguished CEOs discussed the theme; The Private Sector: The Exigency of its Collaboration to the Sustainability of Africa.

While the driving force for the UNGC is hinged on the 17 SDGs and the 10 Business Principles it was agreed that the strategic focus for business in Africa ought to be Goals 5, 8, 13, 16 and 17 i.e. Gender Equality, Decent Work and Economic Growth, Climate Action, Peace Justice and Strong Institutions and finally Partnership for the Goals. At WISCAR, we continue to champion Gender Equality and Women’s Empowerment as the bedrock of all the other 16 goals and together with the UNGC and UN Women advocate for concrete action through practical strategies including becoming a WEPs Signatory.
